TIPS ON DEALING WITH A PICKY EATER

Almost every parent has experienced a one time or another on dealing with a picky eater, or at least knows someone who has.  I am no different; my daughter was one of the pickiest eaters you’d ever meet.  I was so concerned about her eating healthy foods I turned to my doctor for some advice.  He told me to give her the food, and if she doesn’t eat it don’t worry because she will eventually, she won’t starve herself.  Well after five days of not eating I gave in and gave her the junk she would eat.  She was always a very tiny child and under weight, I had to come up with something else that would work.

I started mincing vegetables into hamburgers, sauces, casseroles, anywhere I could hide them.  I even hid bran into where ever I could so she would get fibre.  Fruit until this day she still won’t eat.  I know this is not a solution, but at least I was getting her to eat vegetables.  Then I bought a couple of kid cookbooks.  She always loved helping bake, so why not let her help me cook a few meals.  If she thought she made the meal she’ll be more likely to try it.  To my surprise it worked.  Give a child a mixing spoon, measuring cups and apron and they love that they are helping. I have a chopper that you just push down on over and over until you have the size you want, wow she just loved that.  After she chopped her first onion, I had no problem with her eating onions. The children’s cookbooks help too; they have great illustrations and kid friendly recipes.  My daughter is now 14 and still considers those cook books to be hers and still uses some of the recipes.

Here is a Recipe to tempt even the pickiest eater:

Turkey Sloppy Joes

1 pound ground turkey

½ cup diced onion
3 garlic cloves, minced or pressed
3 tablespoons chicken broth
¾ cup unsweetened applesauce
1/3 cup ketchup
¼ tomato sauce
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
4 teaspoons brown sugar, packed
 A pinch of paprika
Salt and pepper
4 hamburger buns or hard rolls, toasted

Coat a large non-stick skillet with non-stick cooking spray (or a tablespoon of vegetable of oil). Add turkey, onion, optional garlic, and chicken broth to the skillet and cook over medium heat until the meat is no longer pink – 6 to 8 minutes – breaking up the clumps with your spoon as you stir.

Wisk together the applesauce, ketchup, tomato sauce, sugar, and paprika in a large glass measuring cup or bowl. Stir this mixture into the turkey and continue to cook over medium heat for 10 to 15 minutes, or until the mixture thickens. Season to taste salt and pepper. Divide the mixture among the rolls.

*This recipe is one that I could hide finely minced vegetables and bran.

Serves 4.

How kids can help

Cut up and measure ingredients for Sloppy Joes. Older kids (9 and up) can do most of the cooking (with adult supervision). Spoon mixture onto buns and prepare toppings.

Why I'm a work at home mom

My name is Jennifer McLennan, but everyone calls me Jen.   I am married to my soul mate Rob.  Together we have a blended family with five children, two from my previous marriage, and three from his.  We have the three youngest still living at home; Wesley 16, Mariah 14, and Jack 11.  The two oldest Brandon 21 and Jami 19 have made us proud grandparents this year with two gorgeous grandsons; Broly and Canaan.  We love life, and our life is all about family.

Two years ago from my previous job I got tendonitis in my right arm from my wrist to my neck.  I have cervical spine dysfunction with nerve root dysfunction.  I am right handed, and the doctor and physiotherapist said I could no long do my job anymore.  My employer offered me a different position with duties I could do, but seven months later laid me off because I couldn’t go back to my previous position.

Trying to find a job at the start of a recession, and with my limited abilities is not easy.  I couldn’t find one.  As you can imagine I started not feeling good about myself, rather useless really.  I started to look for work from home jobs on the internet.  Most of what I found seemed like obvious scams.  I tried the survey thing, it promised so much money.  I made $10.00 in five months and I was doing surveys constantly.  My husband and I were getting frustrated as we were falling farther and farther in debt without my income to help support our family.

Finally in March 2010 I found a legitimate work at home business.  I found Internet CEO Moms.  I didn’t go into this business without any scepticism, as my mentor can surely tell you, but everything I heard I liked and made sense.  There was no risk so I had nothing to lose.  I had to give it a try.

Right from the start I loved it.  This incredible team gives you unlimited training and support.  I am constantly inspired and motivated by this group of women.  I truly went into this with the sole purpose to earn an income, and I’ve gotten so much more than being able to earn an income from home.  Every day that I work at this business I feel good about what I’m doing.  I don’t feel bad about myself anymore.  I have a purpose now, to help others achieve their goals while I work to achieve mine.  I’m so glad I chose to work with amazing team.

A Wonderful Mother's Day Weekend

My mother's day weekend wasn't out of the ordinary, there was no money spent, but it was a weekend I truely enjoyed. It all started out saturday morning with bad weather. It was raining and we had a terrible wind storm, but that didn't stop us. We had plans to go to my mom's to celebrate Mother's Day with her. She wanted to cook us a ham supper. My moms a great cook, but with just her and my step father at home, I'm sure it's very simple meals. It sounded like she was looking forward to cooking a big meal for the family.
She lives in Lucknow, Ontario about an hour and half away from Stratford where we live. The drive wasn't the best, at one time we thought the truck was going off the road because the wind picked up the back tires. Thanks to my husbands good driving skills we were just fine.
After arriving at my mom's, I had a lovely surprise that my brother Jim was there also. It was nice visiting with him as well, and I know mom enjoyed that we were together. We also had another surprise, the hydro was out. The wind blew down a large tree that damaged the main transformer in their town. My moms plans for a ham supper didn't get stopped though. My stepfather Bill and my brother Jim already had the barbeque in the garage out of the bad weather, and made sure windows were opened for ventilation. Mom and I went down into the basement and got out her colman stove. It was brand new, still in the box. She had bought it just for an occasion such as the hydro going out. Way to go mom, your more prepared then I am.
Mom already had everything ready to go, so we just had to cook it. It gave us a great opportunity to visit in the garage while watching everything cook. Mom and I also took a time out to play cards with the kids. Supper turn out great, delicious as usual and she even made my favourite pie for me; rhubarb. There is nothing like coming home to moms home cooking.
After supper we lit some candles and played another game of cards. We were hoping the hydro would come on, but it didn't. It was about 9:00pm and we thought we had better start heading home. The drive was much better on the way back home, the wind had calmed down. I called my mom when we got home and she said the hydro came back on just as we left. Go figure. The hydro didn't matter, we had a wonderful visit and made a nice memory.
On sunday, Mother's Day, my husband let me sleep in and as I was getting out of bed he just got back from buying me a coffee at are local cafe. That sure was nice. If you know me you know I love my coffee. Then he made us all bunch of eggs, bacon and engish muffins. It was really good. My two youngest children, Mariah and Jack cleaned up, then we all got ready to go to London. We had plans to go visit our son Brandon, our daughter-in-law Rachel and our new 1 month old grandson Canaan.
We had a nice little visit with the kids and my beautiful grandson, then headed back home. It was about 7:00pm when we got home, so my husband Rob made us a quick supper of soup and grilled cheese. It was just perfect, we didn't want another big meal. The kids cleaned up the dishes and we relaxed for the rest of the evening.
All in all I thought it was a wonderful Mother's Day weekend. It was all about family and spending time together. What more could a mother ask for? Thanks Rob my wonderful husband and thank you kids for just being you! I had a great Mother's Day!

Friday's Legacy

My daughter Mariah is in the gifted program at school, it's called Infinite Horizons. This year they took music (Rock Band). In four Fridays this group of exceptional children in grade 7 & 8 put a band together. They named it Friday's Legacy. None of them had any previous experience. They learned their instruments, songs, and working together in group in just four days. I think what they acomplished is just amazing. I know I could of not come close to learning an instrument or learning 4 songs and playing in a band in just four days.
My daughter Mariah is the singer. I thought she did very well. This once shy quiet girl has come out of her shell and ready to take what comes her way. She has always loved learning, but now has become a leader. I know I could of not sang in front of a crowd, and she did it two days in a row. I am so proud of her.

Going Green

I’ve always liked the thought of green products, but not until recently have I seriously thought about it.  The products in the store seem so expensive, and the ones I have tried didn’t seem to do all that great of a job.

  I just started thinking about it again because someone referred me to a great store on line that has over 300 products that are green. A wellness company that has been in business for 25 years.  They we’re green before green was popular.  I certainly never heard of going green and green products growing up.  I only thought green products were cleaning products, but I was wrong.  They have five categories.  An ecosence line, in which is cleaning products, air mists, and candles. A vitality line, in which is your vitamins and supplements.  A bath and body line, that has a variety of shampoo, body wash, soap, deodorant, shaving cream etc; for the whole family.  A skin care and cosmetic line, for all your skin care and beauty needs.   And finally a pharmacy line for your drugstore essentials.

  Not only do they have all these products, they have them at a great value.  But do they work?  Well I haven’t tried all the products yet, but I can tell you the ones I have tried, I am pleasantly surprised, they are just great.  The cleaning products I can’t say enough of, and with no harsh chemical smell to inhale. 

  Since I have been referred to this store, I have been researching about chemicals in the home.  What I found shocked me.  I only considered cleaning products in having chemicals.  I never realized it’s in our laundry soap, body wash, shampoo, toothpaste, lotion, make up, baby products, and the list goes on.  It’s no wonder why there is so much sickness in North America.

My new job: Internet Ceo Mom

  Last month I discovered Internet Ceo Moms.  I saw this add Work From Home.  I decided to click on it and check it out.  Up came a nice web-site Internet ceo Moms.  Work for yourself, not by yourself! The web-site also said Enhance Your Life Now! Internet Ceo Moms will provide you the training and support to help you successfully work from home to achieve your personal and financial goals!  I thought what do I have to lose to just get information.  So I did.  Trust me I was very cautous about it.  There was no way I wasn't going to research everything I was about to hear.
  To my delight I did hear from this nice lady named Rebecca.  She gave me lots of information with no pushy intent to sign me up.  She gave me the time to research it, time to think about it, and time to talk it over with my husband.  There was no risk, so I signed up.  Rebecca is now my mentor, she is helping me on my way to having a home business.  With Internet Ceo Moms I get free training and a free web-site.  I look forward to this new chapter of my life.
