Today was a cold one; it was -25 degrees Celsius with the wind chill this morning here in Stratford, Ontario. I had got my youngest child Jack off to school, making very sure he had on the proper clothes for such a cold day. I took out the recycling, and then got my dogs out for their morning ritual.
After getting back in my warm cosy house I threw in a load of laundry, took out something for supper, and grabbed another cup of coffee and heading into my home office. I started checking my email and thought to myself I am so lucky that I work from home.
A few years ago, when I worked outside the home the days were so very different. I would get up rush to get ready for work and make the kids lunches, figure something out for supper (usually in the crock pot), kiss the kids good bye and remind them to leave in time for school. Then head out to the cold of winter and stand and wait for the bus to come. It never came at the same time, most of the time it was late, but whenever I left later it would come early and I would miss it.
After I was done work, the same thing wait; for the bus in the bitter cold. Get home, ask the kids if they did their homework, made sure the kids had eaten (no I didn’t have time to eat) and then at least one if not two had to be somewhere for a lesson, sport, or something that they were doing. Usually I was home for only 15 minutes before I was out the door taking them where they had to be.
By the time they were done their activities and got back home it was usually time to get them off to bed. The next day the same thing all over again. It never felt our family ever spent real quality time together, plus I never felt like I had any time to myself. And I did this for what?
I did it for the pay check, to help with the bills (not that I got paid enough). I certainly didn’t do it because I loved the routine. I certainly didn’t want to do a job that was labour intense. I certainly didn’t want to get tendonitis in my wrist, elbow, shoulder and neck. I just needed to earn an income.
Thankfully that is all behind me. I am so glad to be working at home and earning an income from a business that I love. I'm so glad that I am helping other moms do the same! I’m so glad I don’t have to go out in these dreaded cold days and wait for a bus, or scrape off the windshield of a car, just to get to a job that doesn’t inspire me. I am so glad to be there before and after school with my kids. So I can properly send them on their way to school, and say how was your day when they come home. Then help them with homework when needed. I am so glad that I can plan and cook a real nutritious meal and we can all sit down together and enjoy it. I am so glad that I can plan my work around my family. Wow!!! I am so glad to be a work at home mom! Thanks Internet CEO Moms!
Enjoy a great day!
