-"What's Wrong With Our Food System? And How We Can Make A Difference." ~ Birke Baehr~

This is a great video, I just had to share it. I hope you watch and enjoy, this kids is awesome.

I do believe we should all buy as much as we can locally and organic. We are putting too much junk into our systems. If you only knew what was in all our foods, you would think twice. I hope you choose your health over convenience.

YOU HAVE A CHOICE!

You have a choice in using safer products out there. Do you realize how many chemicals and harmful toxins that is out there? Well I tell you much more than you probably realize. It’s just not in our air; it’s in our homes as well. The things you may use every day in your home may contain harmful chemicals and toxins. These things are in our shampoos, lotions, soaps, tooth paste, cleansers, make up, deodorants, laundry detergents, baby products and other common products.

Like most people, I always assumed that if a product was out in the market it must be safe. I now know this is not the case. Actually most consumer products that we all use every day are filled with toxic chemicals, many which require special handling if used in a chemical laboratory or in the work place.

There are basically three ways that toxic chemicals can enter your body; by swallowing, by breathing, or by contact with your skin or eyes.

When most people hear about a chemical poisoning, they usually think about swallowing. Over three- quarters of all of poison exposures reported to poison control centers involve ingestion of toxic house hold products.

The personal care products we put on our skin and hair create possible toxic exposures through skin. In 1989 a House subcommittee asked the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) to analyze 2,983 chemicals used in personal care products, and 884 were found to be toxic. Of these 778 can cause acute toxicity. Of these 778 can cause tumors, 218 can cause reproductive complications, 314 can cause skin and eye irritations.

What you can do. The first step, educate yourself. There are lots of books and websites containing information on this subject. The next step is to begin to eliminate toxics from your daily life. While cleaning and personal care products are not the only source of toxic chemicals in your home, they are among the most toxic and deadly. Fortunately they are also the easiest to replace.

There are products out on the market that are green, with no harsh chemicals and are safe for us. Do your research because not all companies are green, they just have a green line. I buy all my products from one place, a company with exemplary business practices, and a reputation of quality and value. They have been in business 25 years and have been green since they opened there doors in 1985.  They have over 350 every day household products for the entire family. I couldn’t be happier since I switched stores, and my family is seeing the difference in our overall heath.

If you would like information of where I shop for my green health and wellness products you can email me at: jennmclennan@hotmail.com or go to the website www.Safer4myFamily.com

10 TOP REASONS I LOVE BEING A WAHM (WORK AT HOME MOM)

1.  I love my job. As the saying goes, “Do what you love, and love what you do.”

2.  I love that I am home before and after school for my children. I was not able to do this when I worked outside the home.

3.  I love that I have time to prepare a home cooked supper and be able to sit and enjoy it with my family.

4.  I love that I have lots of time in my schedule to spend quality family time.

5.  I love I don’t have to ask anyone for time off to attend any appointments for me or anyone else in my family.

6.  I love that if I have a sick day, or a child that is ill, I don’t have to call in to work and take a day off.

7.  I love that I am available to volunteer in my children’s school and activities.
8.  I love that it’s easier to keep the house clean, and get daily chores done, while I’m working at home.

9.  I love that I can earn a real income, and help my husband with the expenses.

10. I love that I’m not exhausted anymore at the end of the   day. I have lots of energy to do the things I need to do.

To your success!

7 Golden Rules for Working at Home

Nothing compares to taking your lunch breaks with your 2-year-old and her teddy bear, canceling calls and meetings on a whim to play hooky on a sunny day or write a sentimental blog post to the sounds of laughter in the playroom. It’s the reason many moms are choosing to work-from-home and combine building a business with raising their kids.
For all the fun and games that go with working at home, if you are serious about building a sustainable business, you need to follow the 7 Golden Rules for Working at Home:
  1. Designate a workspace – Find a quiet corner of the house where you can set up your workspace, preferably with enough storage space for files and any other related items. The next best thing is a portable filing folder to storing paperwork and clearing work clutter off of common family areas.
  2. Schedule official ‘office hours’ – Maybe it’s early in the morning before the household wakes up and when the baby is napping or maybe you hire a babysitter for a couple of days a week. Whatever you do, you need to schedule in undisturbed focus time.
  3. Get organized (to the extreme) – Pre-pack lunches and activity bags, create a family in and out box to manage the things that come and go from the house, and plan your weekly menus and bulk shop for ingredients.
  4. Set clear boundaries – Let friends and family know that you are working from home and set clear boundaries on calling or dropping in. The same holds true for clients. Let them know when you are available and manage their expectations by avoiding responding to voicemail and email in ‘off’ hours.
  5. Find help – Parenting and building a business are both full-time jobs. Doing both requires ‘outsourcing’ tasks. The good news is you get to ditch the stuff you hate doing anyway, like cleaning the toilets or bookkeeping. It doesn’t matter what you get help with – the key is getting help.
  6. Set daily goals – Use daily goals to stay focused and get priority tasks done. Remember to make your goals SMART (Specific-Measurable-Achievable-Realistic-Time-Sensitive). For example, growing your web traffic by 10% by next month or adding 3 new clients this quarter.
  7. Celebrate your successes – All work and no play makes mommy a dull (and often overtired, grumpy and overwhelmed) girl. Take the time to celebrate the small daily victories and treat yourself to a bit of me-time for the big milestones.

Carla is the proud (and totally biased) mother of one very precocious daughter, a loving wife to one very lucky husband, and a supporter of moms everywhere who want to build a lifestyle business that gives them the flexibility to work-from-home and raise a family.
She is a believer that the best business training isn’t in the classroom or the boardroom, but the playroom where she hones her business skills on a daily basis. Want marketing help? Try upselling a toddler on carrot sticks instead of cookies. Need to negotiate a contract? Try talking a reluctant preschooler into washing her hair.
She shares her time management, motivation and practical business tips for mom entrepreneurs as well as the trials and tribulations of balancing work, family and a little bit of playtime for mommy at MOMeo Magazine, an online resource publication for work-at-home moms.

Here are some more Motivational Poems!

Here are some motivational poems. Some will get you thinking. Some will motivate you to take action. If you find a poem that resonates with you, save it. Enjoy these motivational poems!

Influence
By Joseph Norris

Drop a pebble in the water,
And its ripples reach out far;
And the sunbeams dancing on them
May reflect them to a star.

Give a smile to someone passing,
Thereby making his morning glad;
It may greet you in the evening
When your own heart may be sad.

Do a deed of simple kindness;
Though its end you may not see,
It may reach, like widening ripples,
Down a long eternity.

Before You
By William Arthur Ward

Before you speak, listen.
Before you write, think.
Before you spend, earn.
Before you invest, investigate.
Before you criticize, wait.
Before you pray, forgive.
Before you quit, try.
Before you retire, save.
Before you die, give.

Do More
By William Arthur Ward

Do more than belong: participate.
Do more than care: help.
Do more than believe: practice.
Do more than be fair: be kind.
Do more than forgive: forget.
Do more than dream: work.

Be The Best of Whatever You Are
By Douglas Malloch

If you can't be a pine on the top of the hill,
Be a scrub in the valley-but be
The best little scrub by the side of the rill;
Be a bush if you can't be a tree.

If you can't be a bush be a bit of the grass,
And some highway happier make;
If you can't be a muskie then just be a bass
But the liveliest bass in the lake!

We can't all be captains, we've got to be crew,
There's something for all of us here,
There's big work to do, and there's lesser to do,
And the task you must do is the near.

If you can't be a highway then just be a trail,
If you can't be the sun be a star;
It isn't by size that you win or you fail
Be the best of whatever you are!

In Honour of my Anniversary

In honour of my 4th Anniversary today, I am going to share the bible verse that was read at our wedding. I picked this verse as it is one of my favourites and was so suitable for our wedding.

<< 1 Corinthians 13 >>
English Standard Version

The Way of Love
1If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned,a but have not love, I gain nothing.
4Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;b 6it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. 11When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. 12For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.
13So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Two things you need to do for your business to grow is develop a Contact List and try to call somebody once a day.
After that...do the other 5, simple, easy Business-Building Activities.
The only thing you need to do is to make sure that you kept doing it, doing it, and doing it.
I cannot imagine why that would not make sense to anybody who wants to start their own business.
The world needs this kind of business now more than ever.
I want to invite you to make a commitment to yourself to move your business forward.

Did You Know......?

Did you know.................
50% of all illness is due to poor indoor air quality (Source: 1989 State of Massachusetts Study)
AIR FRESHENERS: interfere with the ability to smell by coating nasal passages with an oily film, or by releasing a nerve deadening agent! Toxins in air fresheners include: Formaldehyde: highly toxic, known carcinogen. Phenol: can cause skin to burn, peel, and sweat. Can cause convulsions, coma, circulatory collapse and even DEATH!

LIQUID DISH-SOAPS: is the leading cause of poisonings in the home for children under the age of 6 (over 2.1 million accidental poisonings per year) (contains formaldehyde and ammonia in most brands) One Million poisonings in Canada each year are due to household cleaner ingestion. Some are fatal. The #1 cause of household poisoning is dish detergent. What kinds of chemicals are in those products? http://www.rense.com/general19/chemical.htm

AUTOMATIC DISHWASHING DETERGENTS: contain dry chlorine that is highly concentrated. #1 cause of child poisonings, according to poison control centers.

CHLORINE BLEACH: is a strong corrosive and can burn or irritate skin, eyes and the respiratory system. Can cause vomiting or coma if swallowed! WARNING! Never mix with ammonia as the fumes are very dangerous and can be DEADLY!

AMMONIA: is very volatile and damaging to the eyes, skin and respiratory tract!

FURNITURE POLISH: contains Petroleum Distillates, which are highly flammable and can cause lung and skin cancer!

DRAIN CLEANER: most drain cleaners contain lye, hydrochloric acid or trichloroethane, which are all very caustic. They burn the skin and eyes, and can cause liver and kidney damage.

OVEN CLEANER: contain lye, which is a strong caustic and irritant to skin and eyes. Can cause tissue damage if swallowed.

TOOTHPASTE: can contain a number of harmful ingredients, such as: ammonia, benzyl alcohol/sodium benzoate, colors, ethanol, flavours, fluoride, formaldehyde, mineral oil, plastic (PVP), saccharin. Formaldehyde, mineral oil, PVP, and saccharin are all classified as carcinogens or suspected carcinogen, as is fluoride, which has been banned in many European countries and is the subject of concern with regard to thyroid problems. In fact, as of April 1997, toothpaste is required to carry poison control information on the label as even a small amount can harm or kill a small child.

Occupational Safety & Health analyzed 2,983 chemicals used in personal care products. A personal care product is de-fined as anything we use to clean our bodies, or make ourselves look or smell good.
The results are as follows:
884 are toxic
146 cause tumours
218 cause reproductive complications
314 cause biological mutation
376 cause skin and eye irritations
778 caused acute toxicity

Over the last 20-30 years, as more toxic chemicals have been introduced in greater amounts, the level of toxins stored in adipose tissues (fat cells) of our bodies has risen. Bio-accumulation studies have shown that some toxins store in our bodies for life. Greater and greater amounts are being stored at younger ages. Diseases that used to occur later in life are now appearing at younger ages. Diseases that used to be rare are more frequent. For Example: There has been a 28% increase in childhood cancer since the addition of pesticides into household products. (Source: National Cancer Institute)

In one decade, there has been a 42% increase in asthma (29% for men; 82% for women-the higher rate for women is believed to be due to women's longer exposure times to household chemicals) (Source: Center for Disease Control)

Due to the increase in toxic build-up in our bodies, including the toxic build-up of formaldehyde, dead bodies are not decomposing as fast as they used to. (Source: National Institutes of Health)

There is an increased risk for leukemia in children where parents have used pesticides in the home or garden before the
child's birth (Source: Journal of the National Cancer Institute)

Over 150 chemicals found in the average home have been linked to allergies, birth defects, cancer and psychological
abnormalities. (Source): Consumer Product Safety Commission

In most cases, however, you won't find much information on the label. There are no requirements of manufacturers to actually disclose what is in a product, and there is no regulation or enforcement. All of it falls under proprietary trade secret legislation.

Today, cancer is the leading cause of death for women ages 35-74. In 1901 cancer was considered a rare disease. Statistics show that only 1 out of 8000 people had cancer. TODAY, according to the American Cancer Society, 1 out of every 3 people has cancer. TODAY, 1 out of every 2 people has been touched by cancer. The fear of cancer is on every-one’s mind these days. So many forms of cancer and they all had to start somewhere . . .

How Safe is My Family?
This is the question that every parent should be asking themselves.

We have no choice but to breathe the air, eat the food, and drink the water; but we DO have a CHOICE of what we put on our skin and what products we have in our homes.

I know that I personally do not ever want to believe that I caused harm to my family, when I had the choice to change it. I’d love to help ensure a safer home for your family.

For more information on how to make your home a healthier place for you and your family please go to my website and I will call you with the information. I would love to help you have a healthier safer home!
